If you’ve been around the Arlington music scene for awhile, there’s a good chance you ran into George Stender at least a couple of times. “George,” as most of people knew him, frequented many of the music venues in downtown Arlington, staying out surprising late, and going out surprisingly often, and was never afraid to show his appreciation for a good song. He a long-time kitchen employee at Whitey’s in Arlington.

Sadly, he passed away on April 18, 2010. A memorial service for George Stender will be held at 6pm today, Wednesday, May 19th at the Bloss Memorial Free Will Baptist Church, at 716 North Barton Street in Arlington.

*thank you to Mike Johnson for the info

It’ll be a combination of craveable food and chill music this Saturday, May 16th, in Arlington, as the 2010 Taste of Arlington Festival occupies the Ballston area from 12-5. The forecast is good, and over 40 local Arlington restaurants will be taking part, including Willow, Jaleo, Carlyle and Lebanese Taverna, while Tarara Vineyards will be handling the wine. And DC’s own award-winning jazz pianist and band leader Marcus Johnson will be providing the music.
